Neighborhood Safety Tips

  • Lock your vehicles — always lock car doors, even in your own driveway. Never leave valuables visible.
  • Report suspicious activity — if you see something unusual, call the El Dorado County Sheriff non-emergency line or 911 if there is an immediate threat.
  • Wildlife awareness — coyotes, deer, and rattlesnakes are common in El Dorado Hills. Keep pets supervised and trash secured.
  • Fire safety — maintain defensible space around your home. Clear dry brush and dead vegetation, especially during fire season.
  • Know your neighbors — introduce yourself, exchange phone numbers, and watch out for each other. A connected neighborhood is a safer neighborhood.

Rattlesnake Safety

Important for all residents

Rattlesnakes are common in the El Dorado Hills foothills, especially during warmer months (April–October). Northern Pacific rattlesnakes are the primary species in our area.

If You See a Snake

  • • Back away slowly — give it space
  • • Do not attempt to handle or kill it
  • • Keep children and pets away
  • • Watch where you step on trails and in yards
  • Call Animal Control for safe removal — El Dorado County: (530) 621-5795
  • Report the sighting by sending an alert with the location, date, and time so neighbors stay aware

If Someone Is Bitten

  • Call 911 immediately
  • • Keep the person calm and still
  • • Remove jewelry near the bite
  • • Do NOT apply ice, tourniquet, or try to suck venom

If Your Dog Is Bitten

  • Get to an emergency vet immediately
  • • Keep your dog calm and limit movement
  • • Do NOT try to suck out venom or apply ice
  • • Note the time of the bite for the vet
  • • Ask your vet about the rattlesnake vaccine
